Jan/Feburary 2025 - Current EventsSo much has been brewing in the studio, much of which is visible on my Instagram site, so be sure not to miss the fun video updates there (@workhorsestudios_terichandani.com). But to dive into the new year, so many developments have been occurring;
-Two, separate, original sculpture busts, of which I'm cleaning up and customizing the masters on as I type! A typey Dutch Harness Horse Version 1 and 2, and a Mini-Dutchie counterpart are both in the works, I will be sharing their photos with you when they are in final form and have their glamour shots ready to post. -I learn new skills each year. This year it's molding and casting! Exciting, scary, time-consuming, and costly, but absolutely worth it! I have learned so much already as I am & will continue creating these high quality Dutch Harness horse busts in-house. -I am still working on my original sculpture baroque poneh and will continue to do so. I redid his entire hinder as it just wasn't quite right and his armature wire noodled on me, which affected joint-to-joint lengths and required correction. This non-linear approach to work is so necessary for the process, and has produced better and better results each time, so it's all progress! Will he be completed and cast in time for Breyerfest 2025? That's a big "We'll see", but it's certainly one of my top priorities! -BREYERFEST'S 75th Commemorative Event - I will be THERE! I'm such a kid - I can't contain my joy at attending my 2nd Breyerfest, in July of this year...sooo looking forward to seeing many of our hobby community there! I'm hoping to procure an artisan's table and have lots of goodies to sell, such as the Dutchies, swag, painted work/customs, and *hopefully* my dodging-charging baroque boy :) -In ongoing guided learning, I am taking Heather Bullach's course on painting black in oils and meeting with sculpting artists to gain their insights as they are willing and able to so generously share their time and wisdom with me. I am so honored that they do so. Reflecting on 2024I feel so greatful for the dynamic year that passed, which brought so many wonderful changes that will continue to help me on my journey towards creating equine 3-D art professionally now and going forward. I was able to participate in the May, 2024 Wire to Whinny workshop, held by Lynn Fraley and hosted by Bluebird Studios in Santa Fe, NM, by the warmest (and most organized!) hosts - Beth and Billy Cooper! I cannot say enough about this workshop, Lynn, Beth, Billy, the location, and the wonderful "life-models" there; Beth & Billy's beautiful, sweet horses which are on site just on the other side of the workshop's wall! I learned an unbelievable amount of knowledge and skill from Lynn's incredible tutelage in just 4 days-she truly is a matriarch in her field! I also fell in LOVE with Santa Fe, all it's rustic history, art galleries, and restaurants.,.I didn't want to leave! I also had the fortune of meeting some incredibly talented artists such as the incomparable Kylee Parks, Nikki Button, and Karen Miller from Australia. It was a wonderful whirlwind of whinny-awesomeness and allowed for a *massive* boost forward in my sculpting abilities. Thank you Lynn, Beth, and Billy, and the artists there who warmly shared their company and skill. Memory of a lifetime! I also had the chance to complete two painting classes; one prior to Wire to Whinny; Karen Beeson's Dapple Grey painting class, in which we studied pattern theory and greying over time, and one after WTW; Heather Bullach's Chestnut and Bay in Oils class. Both classes were invaluable teaching "toolboxes" of their own, and I feel so lucky to have such expertise in our hobby! I finally, after many, many years, was able to participate in a live show and enter pieces I had painted (and some, partially customized)....Canyons & Caballos Live Show held in Los Angeles, California (a relatively short drive from home!). I not only meet amazing hobby people wherever I go but I learn each and every time I join in something "hobby". This time it was how to eat humble pie, in the face of 100 entrants and absolute top-tier work from around the world judged by top-tier judges! I discovered it is much more challenging to take home rosettes nowadays due to this abundance of talent, but I am content with my NAN's at such a tough, amazing show! Thank you judges Heather Bullach, Mel Miller, and Caroline Boydston, for you insight, advice, and hard work (I don't envy you in placing those horses!). I finished out the year with a Christmas get-together of the Southern California hobbyist group. Talk about an absolute BLAST full of laughter, shenanigans (YESSSS! I LURVE SHENANIGANS!) and good cheer. I felt so at home "with my people" - my model horse tribe - and I could not have been happier than to meet everyone. We had loads of yummy food, and I brought chai and my husband's awesome chicken curry because of course, me...and we had a horsey themed White Elephant gift exchange. My contribution was slightly over-the-edge regarding family friendly but let's just say it created some laughs and good cheer. We stayed til late, I bought a clinky from Heather Wells and drooled over her incredible collection full of hobby history and *awwwesomme* ... and of course talked shop. Caroline Boydston gave me some invaluable insight on my sculptures... it was just a fantastic time! What a truly wonderful way to close out a fantastic year! Looking forward to what 2025 brings! See you there :) |
